Write a blog

Your Chronolog tells a story. Blog posts are a great way to bring that story to life for funders, media, your community, and others.

Here are a few tips for writing something that resonates:

  • Start with a clear purpose: What problem is your site helping to address? What do you want your audience to understand or feel inspired to do?
  • Emphasize participation: Remind readers that anyone can contribute to science. Each photo helps build a valuable environmental record and supports long-term conservation.
  • Connect short-term action to long-term impact: Explain why consistent monitoring matters. Small changes add up over time. What are you hoping to understand or do with that knowledge? Or, what are you hoping participants take away?

Overall, effective science communication for public audiences engages the head, heart, and hands. Help your audience:

  • Understand the issue in plain language (e.g., erosion, invasive species)
  • Feel hopeful and connected to the solution
  • Know exactly how they can participate (where they can find the Chronolog and what to do)

Here’s a great example from Virginia Coast Reserve LTER.
